Flashback Post #9; Crime in Orlando

Today is Flashback Day!
Flashback Day is a day I will dedicate my Living Disney Blog post to our story of Moving to Walt Disney World Florida!

I kept a journal, complete with pictures of our move to Florida and I'm going to share it all with you here!

It starts 4 weeks before we moved to Florida, back in 2008, when we were in Asheville, N.C. and decided to make our Dream Come True by moving to to the Walt Disney World Florida area!

Title: Crime in Orlando

Journal Entry:
It's been a long day!  We visited with family this morning/ afternoon and then we came home and packed for the rest of the afternoon and the evening and boy am I tired!

I just want to talk to someone about the crime in Orlando ... it's bad!

I keep reading awful things on the city-data forums I've been avidly reading these past couple of weeks and it really scares me.

I've never had any problems when visiting Walt Disney World every year, and we stay for about 2 weeks each time, and we've stayed off site the past few years.

Goodness, they make it seem as though it isn't safe in your own home, or even to go to the grocery store!

I know the crime is really, really high in Orlando, but really, is it that unsafe?

The members of the forum who live in the Orlando area only have negative things to say.  They say it's not safe to go to your mailbox, or to get groceries after dark, or to walk around your neighborhood.  That's not how I want to live, in fear.
I knew crime was bad before I decided to move to the area, but after all the time I've spent trying to find the perfect place to move to, with no luck we just decided to go with the most fun place we could imagine.  Disney World.

There are 3 major reasons I said I'd never live in Florida, and those are:
  1. Crime
  2. Weather
  3. Bugs (roaches)
Anyway, it doesn't matter really, we're still moving in 3 weeks, and I'm happy with our decision, and I know it's the right choice for us.

I Just wanted to talk about it because I keep reading about all these awful things and I'm worried about it along with all the other things that's going on right now.

Moving is so stressful!!!

I'm going to continue to do my research, even if it's just for my peace of mind (or maybe it isn't, lol.).

Regardless of how bad Orlando sounds, it can't be as bad as people say.  Those people must just live in very bad areas, where the crime is abnormally high.
