It All Started With a Dream; #1

It All Started With a Dream; #1

Welcome to my new series about how our Disney family of five ended up Living Disney. ºOº

I  hope that my story helps inspire you to live your dreams, no matter how big or small they may be.

I am living my dream right next to Walt Disney World Florida and not a day goes by that I don't think about how blessed we are, and what life could have been like if we hadn't listened to our dreams, and followed them.

Let's turn back time ... to 2003 ...

In 2003 we were living in Asheville, North Carolina.  We had been in Asheville since 1989 when our parents moved us there from Fairbanks, Alaska, where my dad was stationed in the Air Force.

We moved to N.C because my mom's family was there, and it had been over 20 years since she had seen them all besides quick visits.

Amy and I were happy to move to NC.  It was a huge change from Alaska, and offered many new and exciting things to do, and places to shop.  (Shopping was sparse in Fairbanks, and we liked to shop, we were teens, lol.).

I will never forget that time in my life, when I left Alaska and went to NC to meet my family, and really get to know them.

It was so lush and green and gorgeous there, unlike anything I had seen before!  We grew up in many places, but mostly Riverside California, and Fairbanks.  We had been in Alaska for 8 years before we moved to Asheville.

There are a few specific things I remember about arriving in Asheville, and one about leaving Alaska.

I will never forget the mountains as we flew over them leaving Alaska in the dusk.  With the snow capped tops they looked like faded blue jeans, which were really in style in 1989.  They were gorgeous, and I knew that I may never see them again, but it was okay, I had a wonderful and fun childhood in Alaska, but it wasn't a place that I wanted to live as an adult, it would be too isolated for me.

I will never forget the green of NC.  Asheville is in the mountains, and it's so very green.  Plants, bushes, and trees everywhere!

Back then the skies were blue and the mountains were green and the contrast was just incredible.  Nowadays the mountains of Asheville are very polluted, and it's not a very pretty place to live.

There were so many stores around Asheville!!!  I remember in Alaska the cheapest can of pop (soda), was $1.50 (in 1989!), in my middle school.  I was so amazed that I could buy them really cheap at the discount stores, (which I'd never been to), and other places.

Shoes for $3.00 at Roses, nail polish and lipgloss for $1.00 at Eckerd, all you can eat buffets (awesome!!!), for just a few dollars.  It was so new and different and fun!

Amy and I got to live with my grandparents in the Country (Barnardsville) for a month while my mom and dad finished packing and came back to NC to our new house.

I will always remember that time fondly, getting to know my grandmommy and granddaddy and their country ways.  Boy, I had culture shock, that's for sure!

Moving from Alaska to the country of the North Carolina mountains was a HUGE change!
